Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

FAQ

1. Are driver evaluations required in Ontario?

Yes. Both insurance carriers and the MTO CVOR Program expect fleets to complete documented driver evaluations. These include Pre-Hire Evaluations, Annual Driver Reviews, and Post-Incident Assessments. Fleets must be able to show proof of driver competency during audits, insurance renewals, or collision investigations.

2. What is an Annual Driver Review?

An Annual Driver Review is a documented evaluation of a commercial driver's performance, required by insurance providers and expected under CVOR standards. It confirms the driver is competent, compliant, and safe to operate your commercial vehicles each year.

3. Do insurance companies require driver evaluations?

Yes. Most insurance companies require annual reviews and proper documentation for every driver. Many will also request evidence of Pre-Hire Evaluations and Post-Incident Evaluations before renewing a policy or approving high-risk drivers.

4. Do you provide documentation for CVOR audits?

Yes. Every evaluation includes clear, professional documentation that supports CVOR audit requirements, insurance reviews, and internal safety programs. Our reports help fleets demonstrate due diligence and proactive safety management.

5. What types of drivers do you evaluate?

We evaluate all classes:

  • AZ

  • AR

  • B

  • DZ

  • CZ

  • G + commercial light-duty

  • Owner-operators

  • Specialty fleet vehicles (towing, utilities, construction, waste, municipal)

6. Do you provide Pre-Hire Evaluations?

Yes. Pre-Hire Evaluations help you ensure a candidate is safe and competent before being added to your driver roster. This prevents onboarding high-risk drivers that could increase your insurance exposure or CVOR risk.

7. Do you offer Post-Incident Evaluations?

Yes. After a collision or near-miss, a Post-Incident Evaluation helps identify root causes, rebuild driver confidence, document corrective coaching, and demonstrate that proper follow-up actions were taken.

8. How long does a driver evaluation take?

Most evaluations take 60–90 minutes, depending on vehicle type, location, and driving conditions. Extended coaching sessions (2+ hours) are available for post-collision confidence-building.

9. Do you offer Pre-Trip Inspection Evaluations?

Yes. We offer practical Pre-Trip evaluations for:

  • Light-duty commercial vehicles

  • Straight trucks

  • Tractor-trailers

These include coaching and documentation to improve compliance and reduce CVOR violations.

10. Do you provide virtual driver file reviews?

Yes. Fleets can securely send us scanned driver files, 30 days of pre-trips, and hours-of-service records. We perform a quick, practical compliance check to identify red flags before an MTO audit.

11. Do you operate across Ontario?

Yes. With hubs in Ottawa and Kitchener-Waterloo, we serve fleets across the province, including: Toronto, London, Kingston, Barrie, Windsor, Cornwall, Timmins, Sudbury, and more. Travel zones depend on distance; remote areas may require accommodations.

12. Do you offer night shift evaluations?

Yes. Evaluations starting between 7:00 PM and 5:00 AM include a night-shift premium. We regularly support towing, municipal, winter operations, and 24/7 fleet clients.

13. Do we use our vehicles or yours?

Driver evaluations are performed in your fleet’s vehicles, ensuring real-world, job-specific assessment.

14. Are evaluations supportive or punitive?

All evaluations are supportive, impartial, and coaching-focused. Our goal is to help drivers improve, reinforce good habits, and ensure they feel respected throughout the process.

15. Do your evaluators hold commercial licences?

Yes. All evaluators hold valid A, C, Z licences and come from professional backgrounds such as policing, driver examination, collision investigation, fleet safety leadership, and commercial driver training.

16. Do you provide full-day fleet evaluations?

Yes. Full-day and multi-day blocks are available for larger fleets or high-volume driver assessments. These are cost-effective and ideal for insurance-driven compliance improvements.
